Friday, June 01, 2012 final weekend of soccer for the Spring here in the Bluegrass (until tryouts, kick-arounds and all the rest of the soccer-related activity that begins immediately after the weekend). but there truly is some finality to it all. this is the last weekend this group of boys will be playing together all on the same side. some of them have played with each other and the same coach since they were 5 years old, so it's more than a little sad. if the experience has taught me anything it's that adults ruin youth sports. parents in particular. petty nonsense about playing time and parental instinct to baby their children and never truly hand the responsibility over to the player to 'earn' a spot eventually will kill a team. so this one is dead, but still a walking dead as they have a chance to end as the State champions. 3 more games if it all goes well and they can walk off with one more trophy. regardless, their coach has made them all better people, better players and this soccer community is better because of him and his work with these kids. you are CSC, you're dynamite. team 2012.
