hanging in the air is the closest thing to flight us humans experience. i recall quite vividly summer days at the public pool, one repeated climb up the ladder to the high dive after another, through the afternoon and into the evening making like a wingless Icarus. the bounce...then...(time stands still and there is no sound)...followed by methodical preparation for the impact...splash! the more elegantly retarded your movements were in your few seconds of suspended animation, the higher on the social food chain of the male diving area universe you were propelled. hours spent honing how you must look in the air to the others on the ground...i can almost hear the board's reverberating pop and rattle.

how they looked from the ground. Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ20.

oh, the wallhogs folks have a blog, they are featuring some photobloggie winners...i'm up in there today. i need one of those big wallhog prints...but of what?
