 get off your ass and get off your ass Friday, June 08, 2007 move something, move something, move...anyways, it's friday, the weekend is upon us. i'm urging you to take a little bike ride, that's right, move your old ass. it's as easy as riding a bike, which i hear is as easy as riding a bike...ya get my point? if you have to go down the street for something or you want to get a little 'different' exercise or you want to go somewhere and shoot some photos or whatever, dig out that bike and pedal...or at least dig it out and give it away...here's an organization we should all be blowing to slow and joyous release, Bikes Not Bombs. BNB takes in about 4,000 bikes every year, folks donate them. they send out about 3,000 of these bikes to places with weird names like Africa, Ghana, and Guatemala. these bikes help out with economic development in these areas via micro-enterprise bike businesses, sustainable technology projects, and youth training programs. the other 1,000 bikes are used here in the states to train young bike mechanics, as part of 'earn-a-bike' youth programs and are sold to help finance more bike initiatives...basically, they fucking rock, sending bikes to war-torn, assholio-plagued shitholes...so the locals can get riding and hopefully on their way to a better life. pretty tasty, what have you done today? yeah, me neither. rim.
