A week from today, Toy Polloy kicks its heels up at the Icehouse. Been getting postcards out, there was a printing of a limited number of hand silkscreened posters made for the event...I'll share online over the weekend, not to worry. Some local press has started to stir, not sure if I'll get the big daily to do a feature or not, I've been efforting, nonetheless the small indy press and online commuity have started responding...The Lexington Project featured a nice bit of words about the show and yours truly in the latest installment. Read it and weep...
:: Friday, November 17 ::“Toy Polloy” art opening w/PARLOUR and TIGHT LEATHER @ The Icehouse, 412 Cross Street
5pm ‘til whenever’, all ages, FREE (they are gonna pass the hat for the out-of-towners, Parlour, at some point in the evening, so be cool and plan on bringing a couple extra bucks)

Speaking of the really hip stuff going down around town … just off the Hop path, at the Icehouse, you’ll find “Toy Polloy”.

Larry Treadway (aka Tread) is forever reinventing himself. After booking/managing the Wrocklage, the stalwart venue of Lexington’s college rock/indie presence in the late 80’s/90’s, and leading the brutal and sludgy (and widely acclaimed) Ted Bundy’s Volkswagon, Larry almost singlehandedly destroyed the local indie music scene 10 years ago, splitting with the Wrocklage and Dave Butler and opening Area 51. (Two indie rock clubs in Lexington? Yeah, that was gonna work. Both died within six months.). Soon after that he hit talk-radio as “Larry Joe Treadway, the intelligent redneck” (if think I’m remembering the moniker correctly). Then came Brains on Film, the terrific film website/message board he did/does with Joe Turner and George Maranville. Then/now a stint as a men’s health guru for Samaritan Hospital. (All these periods overlap and I’m skipping steps – somewhere back there insert ‘graphic designer for LFUCG’s Office of Public Information). Anyhoo, now we get to Tread’s current incarnation - toy camera auteur. And, it seems that, as with everything the crazy bastard puts time toward, he’s good at it ... “award winning” good n’ shite. “Toy Polloy” is a collection of 42 photos from 30 different that Larry put together from artists working with toy cameras. It’s not a schtick – the results are pretty amazing, and anything but toy-ish. (You can peep a couple at http://www.toypolloy.com/about.html.) Good job, Larry.

It’s always a party at the Icehouse, and you know that means music. This time ‘round, we’ll be treated to a rare live performance by Louisville art-rock/post-rock legends Parlour (led by our friend Tim Furnish and featuring former members of Crain, The For Carnation, Weapons, and Sapat) and a set by mind-altering locals Tight Leather (with peeps you’ll recognize from RC ProAm and Mad Shadows … and, if’n you’re a consumer of vintage wares, the Jonk store). Show up early. Stay late.

So yeah, single-handedly killed the music scene...everybody has to be good at something...

Anyway, help spread the word, others will be featuring artists and chatter about Toy Polloy in the next few days around the web and anything you can do will be greatly appreciated and if you need anything from me to help...drop a colored white guy an email. Oh, you can't say that anymore can you? You get my point, holler!
