![]() ...taking photos. Monday, September 18, 2006 The phrase 'taking photographs' can have at least a couple different meanings...at some inopportune moments, I reckon as a photographer, I am 'taking' a photograph, a moment, a 1/100th of a second slice of someone else's reality...when you take something, sometimes it is impossible to give something of equal value in return, I need to think about that in my shooting...below is the text contained in the photo above. Poignant words from a frustrated person at the 9/11 site...ground zero...there are 500 photos from NYC relating to 9/11 (the show is titled Here Is New York)on display through September 30. The photos have been given to the Louisville Free Public Library, 301 York Street, to be made part of their permanent collection... from the photo above... ALL OF YOU TAKING PHOTOGRAPHS I wonder if you really see whats here or if you are so concerned with getting that perfect shot that you've forgotten this is a tragedy site, not a tourist attraction. As I continually had to move 'out of someone's way' as they carefully tied to frame this place mourning. I kept wondering what makes us think we can capture the pain, the loss the pride & the confusion--this complexity--into a 4X5 glossy.
