I thought I'd drop a 'don't forget' out there to the true believers still interested in such things. Rather Ripped is the title. I have had a copy of it for a while...don't ask. NPR did a great story on SY yesterday celebrating the fact that they have been doing it for 25 years. Impressive--whether you love them or loath them. They still make music that is as good as their music was when they began. They don't rest on greatest hits...why? Because they don't have any. Still waving the tattered flag of indy cred, punk rock and unlistenable (to many, but not I!) noise. I love Sonic Youth, saw them first in 1985, again in '86, again in '90 and '94. So wow, I haven't seen them in 12 years...they are on Letterman Friday night...maybe that will nudge me towards an actual tour date. Maybe the Minnesota State fair with old chums, the Flaming Lips...Minnesota in August...has to be better than Minnesota in December, I did that once for a week and let me tell you, the fucking Mexican food in Minneapolis was absolute shit, but Tim Mac and AmRep were keen and I got an unreleased record for my time...but that is for another day.
