What does a guy do when he gets recognized by his peers for doing something he enjoys? He first must say 'thank you' to the people who bothered enough to throw said guy's hat into the ring. So 'thank you' for doing that if you did that, but even more than that, 'thanks' simply for stopping by now and again, looking at a photo, sometimes saying something about that photo or just 'hello.' I appreciate it, I don't 'need' it per se. That is the cool thing about photography, you get what you 'need' at different levels relating to it. It's rewarding just finding subject matter, then there's the clicking, the work to make the image, the printing, the posting, the public viewings, the critiques and back pats. Any one of these things or any combination is surely enough to get me by, when it comes to my little picture thing. The people I meet, well, the people are icing. The best kind of sloppy, sticky, sometimes overly sweet icing. Some I may eventually greet in person, some I may never, but with that common bond of camera work it seems we always have something to chat about. That is the best thing about photoblogs, photographers actual create them and more importantly photographers actually visit them. What a fucking inspiration to show your work and know that folks you admire might actuallly stop in and take a gander. This drives me to practice my craft, hone my eye, watch my tongue and in general, to just be 'better.'

Oh, that sappy shit is related to my 2006 PhotoBloggie. Best Writing category...I is honored, especially given the others in the same category, to be mentioned. Best Writing on a Photoblog might be like Best Dancing in Architecture but I do think given the forum to reach intelligent, arts-minded folk it is silly to not try and entertain and educate...remember GoTreadGo is Ed-u-taining! I was also tapped in Best Toy Camera Photography, a mention I shared with 3 of my best online pals. Susan B., Bill from Chi-town and Texas style Warren, who stole the show as winner of the category. Much deserved, I have to say while I am at it, and given the fact I will forever be indebted to him for his cab service, let me add that he is one Helluva guy.

Other pals in the overall mix that I have to bow to, Bob (Best American Blog!) at No Traces, Shannon at Electrolite, LaLa at Hello. Oh, and a second mention of Susan B. who was in more categories than you could shake a stick at and who, as a fellow traveler, is an inspiration and source of knowledge beyond what any mere nomination or award can represent...

Alright enough of that, I've managed to over indulge my ramblings about awards and it's time to talk about Dogwoods. Yeah, dogwoods. In Kentucky, they are everywhere. But I still like them. I don't believe that poem that claims Jesus's crucifix was made from Dogwood and so they never grew big enough again to make such a instrument of mass destraction. But I still like them. They represent Spring in this area moreso than just about anything shy of the Kentucky Derby and the birth of another distant cousin. So Dogwoods, ain't they pretty?

I almost forgot...featured this morning at Weekly Shot, A Decisive Moment.
