![]() what's the upside? Tuesday, May 16, 2006 Feeling like your border is secure now? Of course, you are, shoot to maim for crossing the line. I'm talking about your Prez and his new tough on migration stance...harhar, yeah right. This guy says so little about so much or is it the other way around? Bottom line, as long as the lure of a job is dangled to those suffering South of the Border not much is going to change the migration to the US. No doubt our social systems cannot handle the influx of non-taxed humanity on an already suck-ass band-aid approach to important things like healthcare, minimum wages and worker rights. So where is the answer? This morning I like comedian/commentor Bill Maher's idea of not building a wall at the border but building a Wal-Mart, a really big one, right on the line...workers enter from the Mexico side to work, Americans enter from the US to shop, end of the day everyone goes back to their own country...I get cheap tortillas while a hard-working Latin person gets an employee discount on a copy of Sean Hannity's latest book...see how it all works? All joking aside, a very serious issue and one that this president is ill-equipped to handle (as are most of the issues in this country that don't involve a crucial decision involving male cheerleading or fishing) because it would require him to hold big business's feet to the fire on hiring illegals and demand that Congress up the minimum wage so Americans could afford to actually work in this land they were born in. Bah, alright, I'll shut up...here's an upside to it all...I can still afford film...a while longer. upside. Fujipet EE, Ilford HP5+ 2006 PhotoBloggies.
